NCS Sophomore of the Year
JULISSA PATINO, P, JAMES LOGAN

Only a sophomore, Julissa Patino, was one half a dynamic pitching duo that led the James Logan Colts to a 14-0 Mission Valley Athletic League record. The Colts have won 68 straight MVAL games.

Patino went 8-0 with a 1.19 ERA, throwing 59 innings and recording 46 strikeouts. Opponents batted a paltry .193 vs the young hurler. Patino started seven games for the Colts, with four complete games and three shutouts.

A Division I semifinal loss to Granada didn’t dampen a great season for Logan, which finished 23-3 on the year. A season highlight for Patino was an appearance versus MVAL rival Newark Memorial. Patino entered as a reliever and the sophomore allowed just one run and four hits in the final five innings.

When she is not toeing the rubber Patino is a first and third baseman. Her favorite quote is “Never let the fear of striking out keep you from playing the game.”

Logan ace Allison Peland (15-3) returns next season as well, so foes facing the Colts will have their work cut out for them again in 2015 facing the dynamic duo.

Also considered: Jessica Johnston, P, Granada; Joyce Aquino, IF, Calistoga; Rosalina McClellan, 1B, Analy; Olivia Dallara, SS/3B, San Rafael; Jessie Scarsella, P, Tamalpais.

NOTE: We would like to thank our readers for all of the nominations you sent in for the season-ending NCS softball awards. It is a daunting task to narrow down our selections to just the top few as we recognize there are lots of great players who make contributions on the diamond that are not necessarily well-documented but mean a great deal to the success of their teams. We salute all of the players that have made this a wonderful season of NCS softball.
