Sacred Heart Cathedral remains No. 1, but that distinction is not likely to last through the end of the CCS playoffs with the emergence of semifinalists Sacred Heart Prep and Watsonville. Meanwhile, Summit Prep makes its first-ever appearance in the Prep2Prep CCS Top 25 in any sport following a 4-0 win over Yerba Buena in the first round of the Division 4 playoffs.Note: Last week's rankings in parentheses
While SHC was ultimately upset on penalty kicks in the Open Division quarterfinals, the Irish deserve the No. 1 overall ranking until an Open champion is crowned. For starters, the game goes down as a draw and the Irish won the WCAL regular-season title with a 4-0 thrashing of Bellarmine, which has in turn defeated Watsonville.
It would be hard to deny the Bells the No. 1 ranking if they go on to win a second consecutive Open Division championship. Bellarmine travels to Watsonville Tuesday in one semifinal.
Watsonville needed overtime to get past St. Ignatius and into the Open Division semifinals. The Wildcatz will host Bellarmine in the semis for the second consecutive season.
The Gators can actually make a legitimate claim for the No. 1 ranking based on an undefeated mark against tough competition. SHP bolstered its claim with a 4-1 win over Mountain View in the Open Division quarters, ensuring the Gators of their first appearance in the NorCal playoffs.
Mitty missed out on a league championship and Open playoff berth with a tie against SI on the final day of the regular season. But the Monarchs advanced into the Division 1 semifinals, holding off a late Santa Clara rally to win 3-2.
Salinas edged a valiant Lincoln squad, 3-2, to reach the Division 1 semifinals. The Cowboys will face SCVAL-El Camino champ Gunn.

In a major upset, junior Ricardo Tovar Herrera (28 goals) didn't score, but that didn't stop Mt. Pleasant from posting a 2-0 win over Carlmont. The Cardinals will face likely future league rival Leigh in the CCS Division 2 semifinals.
Lincoln lost a penalty-kick heartbreaker in the BVAL championship and then fell just short in the first round of the Division 1 playoffs, losing 3-2 at No. 1 seed Salinas.

Branham picked up its fourth win in a row as goals by Carter Thompson, Kenneth Esquivias and Jaeson Gonzalez lifted the Bruins to a 3-0 win over Los Gatos in the first round of the Division 2 playoffs. Branham takes on Wilcox, which beat the Bruins early in the preseason, 1-0.
Los Altos let a 1-0 halftime lead get away in a 2-1 loss at Leigh in the first round of the Division 2 playoffs.
Menlo-Atherton pulled off one of the biggest surprises in the CCS first round, playing Sacred Heart Cathedral to a wild 5-5 draw before advancing to the Open semis on penalty kicks. M-A takes on Sacred Heart Prep Tuesday in an Atherton derby.
Homestead ended its up-and-down season on a down note, losing its final two games, including a 2-0 home defeat against Alvarez in the first round of the Division 1 playoffs.
