NCS Player of the Year
JEFF GREENBERG, F, MONTE VISTA

Jeff Greenberg and Monte Vista fell short in the NCS Championship, losing 2-1 to De La Salle. Greenberg scored the lone goal for the Mustangs on a header in the 16th minute.

Greenberg had a championship year for Monte Vista, who went 19-4-3 overall, 10-3-1 in league play.

The senior forward had 23 goals and 13 assists for the Mustangs and was named EBAL's MVP. For his outstanding season, Greenberg has been named the Prep2Prep North Coast Section Player of the Year.

“I think the main thing that has helped me be successful this year is how well we are playing collectively,” Greenberg told SportsStars magazine. “There are plenty of other forwards in the East Bay who are just as good as I am and don’t have nearly the same stats as I do right now because they don’t play on as strong of teams. My teammates deserve plenty of credit because without them I wouldn’t be able to score as much. So I think my success is due to the strength of our team.”

Due to a serious back condition, Greenberg has already decided he won’t attempt to play collegiately. Ending his competitive soccer career after this season was not a decision he took lightly.

“I do love the game, and since I was a little boy it has always been my passion,” Greenberg said. “I have a pretty serious back problem and at the beginning of my junior year my family and I decided that it would be in my best interest to not continue playing past high school. I wanted to go out playing with my best friends who I have had forever. My teammates at Monte Vista are, and always will be, good friends of mine.”

Also considered: Jonathan Ayala, F, Ygnacio Valley; Ryan Donat, F, Campolindo.

NOTE: We would like to thank our readers for all of the nominations you sent in for the season-ending NCS soccer awards. It is a daunting task to narrow down our selections to just the top few as we recognize there are lots of great players who make contributions on the court that are not necessarily well-documented but mean a great deal to the success of their teams. We salute all of the players that have made this a wonderful season of NCS soccer.
