AAA Player of the Year
KYLE NELSON, QB, GALILEO

Senior quarterback Kyle Nelson led Galileo to its 17th Academic Athletic Association football title, in 2013, completing 182-of-265 passes for 3,195 yards and 47 touchdowns, with four interceptions. He also ran 57 times for 338 yards and 11 scores.

Nelson showed his clutch ability in the league title game against Lincoln -- a 34-30 Lion victory -- throwing for three touchdowns and running for two. He completed 8-of-11 passes for 242 yards.

In a 57-30 victory against Lowell, Nelson went 17 of 18 for 355 yards and four touchdowns and rushed for 69 yards and one TD.

"Wow," Nelson told the San Francisco Examiner after the Lowell game. "It's been a goal to be perfect in a game this season."

Nelson (5-10, 155), a two-sport star, has signed to play baseball at UC Santa Barbara. The left-hander struck out nearly two batters per inning last season for the Lions in being named the Galileo Player of the Year.

"Kyle is a dual-sport athlete and is extremely competitive," said UC Santa Barbara baseball coach Andrew Checketts. "He attacks the strike zone and has a wipe out breaking ball."
