WACC-Foothill Player of the Year
STEPHEN JOHNSON, QB, SAN LEANDRO

Quarterback Stephen Johnson was Mr. Versatile this season for San Leandro, a dual-threat player who bedeviled opponents with his arm and his feet.

He showed just that in a 56-24 victory against Berkeley, running for two touchdowns and hitting tight end Keone Foumani with a perfect pass for another score.

"He is one of the most dynamic athletes that I have had the pleasure of coaching," San Leandro coach Brad Bowers said. "He is an incredible talent that is continuing to learn the game and grow. He makes plays on the field that no one else can make."

Johnson completed 49-of-94 passes for 939 yards and six touchdowns, with four interceptions. He also rushed 98 times for 728 yards and 13 scores, averaging 7.4 yards per carry.

The senior's excellence led San Leanrdo to a West Alameda County-Foothill League title.

"We had a good season, but I wish we could have done better in the playoffs," Johnson said.

Johnson said his best game was against Deer Valley when he threw for two touchdowns and rushed for three.
