SCVAL-DA Player of the Year DELSHAWN MITCHELL, RB/DB, WILCOX
Wilcox's Delshawn Mitchell utilized the death of his aunt Lacresia from cervical cancer as inspiration, and oh what heights Mitchell climbed.
The Chargers' running back rushed for 1,747 yards on 128 carries and scored 18 touchdowns to help Wilcox to an SCVAL-De Anza tri-title
with Los Gatos and Milpitas.
Wilcox even gave Bellarmine a tough game in the Central Coast Section Open Division opener before losing a close one.
He also stood out on defense, managing 3.5 tackles per game, recording four tackles for loss, intercepting three passes, recovering
three fumbles and causing one fumble.
"I feel great," Mitchell said. "We went far. We went to the Open Division for the first time in school history."
He mentioned his performances against Saratoga and Palo Alto as highlights.
Against Saratoga he rushed for 229 yards and two touchdowns and against Palo Alto he went for 262 yards and three scores in a pair of
Wilcox victories.
Anoa'i played Pop Warner football for the West Bay Rams and then enrolled at Serra and did not regret it.
