Dual-threat QB Edric Gamble led Alvarez to a perfect regular season. (Alvarez Football)

MBL-Pacific Player of the Year
EDRIC GAMBLE, QB, ALVAREZ

Together, Bottom and Gamble led the Eagles to a perfect regular season and an 11-1 overall record.

Alvarez is the first Monterey County team since North Monterey in 1979 to go from a winless regular season to a perfect regular season in one year.

Gamble, a junior, did his part, rushing for 1,068 yards and scoring 16 touchdowns. He also passed for 634 yards and nine touchdowns, with three interceptions.

Against Gilroy he really lit things up, throwing for two touchdowns and running for four.

"I like being on the field and playing," the 6-foot-1, 160-pound Gamble said. "I've been playing football and basketball since I was little. I like being active and doing something positive."

It probably shouldn't come as a great surprise that Gamble is athletic. His father, Dwayne Gamble, played basketball at Monterey and his mother, Latasha Ellis, played basketball at Notre Dame-Salinas. The Alvarez QB also has a younger sister, Deaysia, who plays volleyball and basketball at Alvarez.

Also considered: Brandon Boyd, RB, Gilroy.
