The Bay Valley Athletic League released its all-league boys basketball awards this week, after Heritage captured its first league title since 2010, and advanced to the North Coast Section Division 1 semifinals, clinching a berth to the CIF NorCal tournament in the process. Heritage junior Jonathan Ned brought home the league's Most Valuable Player award, in his first full varsity season. The 6-foot-7 swingman has demonstrated ability throughout the season to score from anywhere on the floor, and handle the ball in both the frontcourt and backcourt. Ned's play down the stretch this season included a 26-point effort in a playoff win over El Cerrito, and a 27-point game in a big come-from-behind win over Deer Valley. His 29-point outburst against rival Liberty led the Patriots to their 200th win in school history. Earlier in league play, he dropped 26 points, including the game-winning basket with 16 seconds remaining, in a one-point win over Liberty.
