De La Salle continues to roll, 49-7, over Logan

October 20, 2013

CONCORD, CA - The De La Salle Spartans decimated the James Logan Colts with their usual rushing plays and iron defense. The Colts, on a five game winning streak heading into their matchup with the Spartans, were simply unable to move the ball against De La Salle. The final score of the game was 49-7, with 35 of those points being scored before James Logan was able to manage its first touchdown.

With only 159 yards of total offense, 90 of which came during the third quarter for their only touchdown, the Colts were kept at bay while the Spartans systematically added to their own tally.

Already down 21 towards the end of the second quarter, James Logan's morale took a huge hit when Javari Anderson recovered an errant snap in the end zone for an easy touchdown to move the game to 28-0 at the half. The other three touchdowns during the first half were all rushing: two scored by John Velasco and another by Antoine Custer.

A running clock was introduced for the entirety of the fourth quarter.

"We played really well tonight," Spartans lineman Brian Joyce said. "James Logan made it to North Coast last year, so you know they're a good team. We managed to keep rushing on them while also holding back their offense."

In regards to the state championship, senior running back Dasmond Tautalatasi said, "Tonight's game was a great step towards our goal of a state title."

The victory moves De La Salle to 7-0 on the season. The Spartans will be playing against Amador Valley next week for their homecoming game. James Logan is now 5-2 and will be taking on Washington High School next week.
