Fremont girls sweep past Live Oak, 55-43

December 23, 2012

Fremont defeated the Live Oak girls basketball team 55-43 in a non-league girls basketball game Friday night.

“In the first quarter we didn’t do so well in defense, but then we picked it up,” said Alma Sivic (20 points), a junior who came out and played hard for Fremont.

Fremont led 16-10 after one quarter.

“We were expecting to get a lot of fast breaks, but that didn’t really happen. Our season has been going pretty good,” said Sivic. “We have our ups and downs, but for league we’re hoping to be league champions.”

Fremont really kicked into gear for the rest of the game, seizing a 35-16 halftime lead.

"I think we worked well as a team," said Fremont senior guard Tieni Tuipulotu (7 points). "We won because of our hard work on defense.”

Live Oak, following this disappointment, now can re-charge during the holiday break.

The Acorns (6-3) have been proud of their efforts so far this season.

“We knew this was going to be a tough game, but we all decided that if we bring our game that we would be able to play the team hard. Even though we didn’t get the win, I feel like we really worked hard as a team together,” said Emily Conlan. “We didn’t give up -- (a quality) I really admire in my teammates.”
