NCS Junior of the Year
JAMES AKINJO, SALESIAN
The six-foot point guard has a complete all-around game, and received first-team all-league honors as a result. The four-star collegiate prospect averaged over 13 points per game for the Pride, including a team-high 17-point effort in a win over Campolindo in the NCS Division 3 title game.
In the TCAL-Rock tournament championship game, Akinjo displayed the ice in his veins, scoring the game-winning lay-up to beat St. Pat’s, and finishing the game with a team-high 23 points. He had earlier displayed those same skills, scoring 20 points including the buzzer-beating game-winner in a non-league win over Bishop O’Dowd.
Akinjo also averaged four assists and two steals per game for a deep Salesian team. He has interest from numerous Division I college programs, including Arizona State and Colorado.
Over the past two seasons, Akinjo has led the Pride to an overall mark of 55-10, with two TCAL championships, two NCS titles, and two straight berths in the CIF Open Division.
Other players considered for this award: Heritage’s Jonathan Ned and Bishop O’Dowd’s Elijah Hardy.
