It is no secret that Los Gatos has been the class of the Peninsula Athletic League so far during the 2026 season. But the Wildcats may have outdone themselves this past weekend.
Los Gatos (4-1) got a game-winning touchdown pass from Jack Siri to Shane Harmer with 24.7 seconds remaining to edge North Coast Section power Pittsburg 28-27 Friday night in its final non-league game. The Wildcats cut into a 21-0 third-quarter deficit when Siri hit Devonte Troutt for a score and Harmer scored a rushing touchdown to pull within 21-14.
Siri finished 13-of-22 for 140 yards and Troutt ran for 100 yards on 21 carries and scored one touchdown on the ground in addition to the one through the air. Los Gatos, which is the only team in the PAL-Bay with a winning record, opens PAL-Bay action October 10 at Sacred Heart Prep. The Gators were off this past weekend along with Menlo and Menlo-Atherton.
The King’s Academy (2-3) broke a three-game losing streak in dramatic fashion, scoring on a 60-yard pass from junior QB Ricky Gutierrez to senior WR Jaiden Flores on the final play of the game to edge Rio Hondo Prep 52-46. Flores caught the ball on the left hash near the 50, eluded two tacklers and got a key block from senior Stephen Mems to scamper down the left sideline for the score.
Friday night, the Knights will take on Wilcox, a 36-29 loser to Edison-Stockton despite 153 yards and two touchdowns from senior RB Elijah Vallejo. In the other PAL-Bay game this coming opening weekend, Menlo-Atherton visits Menlo.
In the PAL-De Anza, the only two teams in action this past weekend were Mountain View and Half Moon Bay, who met in the league opener Friday night. Half Moon Bay (5-0) rolled to a 61-28 win, scoring 47 points in the first half to overwhelm the Spartans (3-2). The Cougars host Woodside Friday night while Mountain View visits San Mateo. In the other PAL-De Anza matchup, Burlingame travels to Palo Alto Friday night.
In other action involving PAL teams, Capuchino stunned Santa Clara with a 31-point fourth quarter to pull out a 44-43 non-league victory, and Terra Nova and South San Francisco opened PAL-El Camino play with wins.
Terra Nova got 206 yards passing and four touchdowns from junior QB Robbie Johnson for its first victory of the season, 45-7 over Los Altos, while South San Francisco rolled past Fremont, 28-7. The two winners meet Friday night at South San Francisco. Santa Clara visits Los Altos and Jefferson begins PAL-El Camino play at Fremont.
The PAL-Lake was in full action this past weekend with Homestead improving to 2-0 thanks to a 31-14 win over MacDonald. Mills junior QB Brian Lourenco tossed four touchdown passes in a 35-28 win over Cupertino as the Vikings improved to 1-1 in the PAL-Lake and the Pioneers fell to 0-2.
Saratoga (4-1) exploded for 28 second-quarter points in a 43-15 non-league win over Monta Vista, and Gunn (3-1, 2-0) got 133 yards rushing and two touchdowns from senior Jett Creighton in a 20-0 win over El Camino.
This week, Gunn hosts MacDonald, Homestead welcomes Cupertino, and El Camino travels to Saratoga. Mills hosts Lynbrook in a non-league matchup.
