CCS Softball Division 4: Zevella leads Notre Dame-Belmont to championship

Junior Caroline Zevella tossed a four-hit shutout to lead Notre Dame-Belmont to a 5-0 win over Branham Saturday in the championship game of the CCS Division 4 softball tournament at San Jose City College. It was the fourth CCS title for the Tigers and their first since 2009.

Senior Skylar Loo was the offensive standout for the Tigers, who were tied 0-0 until exploding for four runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. Loo went 3-for-3 with two doubles, a run scored and two RBIs. The Bruins (13-13) managed just two singles and two doubles off Zevella.

Notre Dame-Belmont (16-11-1) is the No. 1 seed in the NorCal Division 5 bracket, earning a first-round bye. The Tigers will take on the winner of the game between No. 4 Moreau Catholic and No. 5 Chester on Thursday.

Branham reached the final with a 5-0 win over Pacific Grove in the semifinals Thursday. Junior Taylor Bugliarello threw a five-hit shutout. NDB hammered The King’s Academy 14-2 in the other semifinal. Loo went 1-for-2 with three RBIs and Allie Dorn went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and two RBIs.
