Junior Victoria Calvillo and senior Analisa Chavez scored three runs apiece and junior Marley Hernandez drove in three with a pair of hits to lead No. 2 Santa Clara to a 14-8 win over top-seeded Silver Creek in the CCS Division 5 championship at West Valley College Saturday.
It is the first CCS championship for the Bruins, who reached the final with a high-octane offense that scored a total of 29 runs in wins over Fremont and North Monterey County. Santa Clara (19-9) awaits the NorCal brackets that will be released Sunday. Silver Creek ends the season 19-9.
Santa Clara scored five runs in the first as Hernandez had the key hit, a two-run single with the bases loaded to make it 4-0. The Bruins extended their lead to 10-2 in the third with four more runs.
Junior Ariana Ibarra led Silver Creek with three hits and three RBIs and freshman Ciana Arreola went 3-for-4 with three runs scored. The Raiders reached the final with a 6-3 win over Gunn Wednesday in which sophomore Evangelina Cuevas went the distance in the circle, allowing just four hits and one earned run.
On Tuesday, Santa Clara edged North Monterey County 17-16 in extra innings in a wild semifinal which saw the two teams combine for 39 hits. Calvillo was the hitting star, going 4-for-6 with four runs and three RBIs. The Bruins trailed 14-6 before rallying for nine runs in the fifth inning. Santa Clara scored the winning run on a sacrifice fly by Jazzy Ramirez that scored Calvillo.
