Fort Scott takes third with win over Louisburg

June 2, 2014

In the third-place game of the 4A Division I state softball tournament, Fort Scott jumped out to a five-run lead in the first three innings and held off the late charging Louisburg Wildcats for a 6-5 victory.

Fort Scott (17-8) collected four hits and three runs in the first inning including a big two-out, two-run single by Taylor Krokroskia. Kyenne Wade also came up huge in the early innings knocking in an RBI in the first inning with a single and collecting two more RBIs in the second with a double.

Louisburg refused to give up however, holding the Tigers to only three hits for the remainder of the game and scoring three runs in the fourth on three hits and one error.

Louisburg (16-8) would also make things interesting in the bottom of the seventh inning as Emalee Overbay scored on a single to center by Ashley Boles, but Boles was thrown out trying to stretch it into a double thus ending the game.
