Valley Christian's Severson reverses field

January 23, 2013

Valley Christian senior running back Ryan Severson (5-foot-11, 195) has de-committed from San Jose State and is expected to commit to Colorado, according to multiple sources.

In doing so, Severson will be following former San Jose State coach Mike MacIntyre who has taken the job at Colorado, along with six Spartan assistants.

"Ryan was a little torn because he met the San Jose coaches and liked them, but he developed a relationship with Jay (MacIntyre, son of Mike) at our school and in doing that became close to Coach Mac," Valley Christian coach Mike Machado said. "Kids choose schools for a myriad of reasons and one was because San Jose State has had success, but the biggest reason was because of coach MacIntyre. Coach MacIntyre did not approach Ryan, but Ryan put it out there that he was interested in Colorado."

Severson rushed for 1,951 yards and scored 39 touchdowns in 2012, teaming with Jay MacIntyre, the Warriors' former quarterback who now lives in Colorado, to lead the Warriors to the Central Coast Section Division III title.

Severson had committed to San Jose State in December, but -- after expressing a desire to attend Colorado -- was invited to take an official visit to Boulder last weekend, reported rivals.com.

"I had to take it," Severson told Rivals. "Ever since I was little I had wanted to go there."
