Mountain House baseball sweeps Hughson

May 1, 2018

HUGHSON,CA -- Mountain House closed out a two-game series with a 12-1 win over Hughson.

Mountain House opened up the scoring at the top of the second, bringing in Andres De Leon, Jacob Vales, Elias Escobar, Julian Sainz, and Hunter Perugi to give them an early 5-0 lead over Hughson. Hughson’s Andruw Mendes later responded in the bottom of the second with a solo home run to give his team the first and only run of the game to cut Mountain House’s lead to four.

“This series was great for our team defensively, pitching, and hitting,” De Leon said. “Heading into this last span of games we want to limit our errors and keep driving for the TVL title.”

Mountain House’s momentum only continued throughout the rest of the game as the team brought in Layne Richardson, Escobar, Sainz and De Leon for another five runs between the third and fifth innings. Hughson attempted to comeback, loading up the bases in the bottom of the fifth, but ended up falling short of getting a run in. Mountain House closed the game out bringing in De Leon and Carter Leal to lift them to a 12-1 win over Hughson and advance them to 8-1 in TVL. Not only did Mountain House win this game, but they held Hughson to one run in the two game series.

“We came out knowing that we needed to come out strong and set a tone in the game,”said Mountain House head coach Stephen Gatehouse. “We got a make up game Monday before we head into our bye week we’re going to rest up and get straight back to work.”

“We made some errors that ended up costing us the game,” said Hughson head coach Charly Garza. “We got a big series next week and were going to look to make the best of it.”

Mountain House will look to continue their momentum into Mondays make game against Modesto Christian, while Hughson will get back to work to face rival Escalon next Wensday.
