Junior Isaac Juarez ran for 244 yards and three touchdowns in a 55-30 win at Leigh Friday night in BVAL-Mount Hamilton action, dealing the Longhorns a major blow to their CCS playoff hopes.
The Lions (3-6, 3-3 BVAL-MH) raced out to a 42-14 halftime lead and cruised to the victory, snapping a two-game losing streak. Senior Gavin Kalama-Florence added three short touchdown runs for the Lions and junior Gabe Florez and sophomore Adam Arenas each ran for 140 yards and a score.
The Longhorns (4-5, 1-5), who were led by senior quarterback Kyle Albert (15-of-31, 229 yards, 2 TDs) and senior wide receiver Mason Peterson (6 rec, 137 yards, 2 TDs), still have a shot at a playoff berth thanks to their perfect 3-0 preseason mark. But they will probably need a win over league champ Oak Grove (5-4, 5-1) Friday night to gain an at-large berth.
Lincoln opts out of the CCS playoffs each year to maintain its longstanding Thanksgiving Day traditional game against San Jose. The Lions conclude the league season Friday night at Live Oak (5-4, 4-2).
