Senior quarterback Jack Heneghan threw for three scores to lead 15th-ranked Menlo to its fifth straight victory, 42-10, over No. 20 Sequoia Friday night. The visiting Knights improved to 5-1 overall, 1-0 in the Peninsula Athletic League-Bay Division; the Cherokees dropped to 3-3, 0-2.
Heneghan, one of the most prolific quarterbacks in the Bay Area, completed 25-of-41 passes for 281 yards and three touchdowns as Menlo overcame a slow start to hand Sequoia its third straight defeat.
The Knights led just 6-3 after one period but ran off 22 unanswered points in the second quarter to take a 28-3 halftime lead.
Junior wideout Jack Marren caught a pair of touchdown passes and a two-point conversion from Heneghan. Marren also rushed for a touchdown. Heneghan also connected with Graham Stratford for a touchdown in the first half to extend Menlo's lead to 12-3 early in the second quarter.
Faa'vae Brown scored Sequoia's only touchdown on a four-yard run in the fourth quarter. Matt Jenkins kicked a 44-yard field goal for the Cherokees in the first quarter.
Menlo, which has won five straight since a season-opening loss to San Angelo (Texas), hosts undefeated Terra Nova next Friday night in a game with major PAL-Bay title implications. Sequoia looks for its first league win next Friday night at home against Menlo-Atherton.
