The Gilroy softball team scored seven runs in the second inning and coasted to an 8-3 non-league victory over visiting Valley Christian Thursday afternoon. With the win, the Mustangs improved to 10-3 on the season.
After doing down quietly in the first inning, Gilroy erupted in the bottom of the second, sending 13 batters to the plate. Senior Adrianna Ortega started the rally with a single, as the first five batters got base hits. The Mustangs parlayed seven hits and two walks into seven runs to open up a 7-0 lead. Anna Gamboa added two hits for Gilroy.
Jessica Delmonica had two hits and two runs batted in for the Warriors (7-9), who rebounded Saturday for a 12-1 win over Cupertino. Both teams are off next week and do not play again until April 9.
