Kingman leads St. Francis past Burlingame

February 28, 2013

Junior Annie Kingman had two goals and an assist to lead St. Francis to a 4-0 victory over host Burlingame in a Central Coast Section Division II semifinal Wednesday night. The win catapulted the Lancers (18-3-1) into the CCS championship match Saturday morning (10 am) at Valley Christian, where they will face surprising Los Altos, a 1-0 winner over top-ranked Mitty. The 11th-seeded Panthers (12-7-4) reached the semis with upset wins over Saratoga and Gilroy but were unable to get past the talented Lancers.

Kingman, who has verbally committed to play at perennial power North Carolina after high school, opened the scoring with a long shot off a pass from Cristina Polini to make it 1-0 in the 18th minute. She added an assist in the 62nd minute on a goal by freshman Delaney Baie Pridham, a late-season call-up from the junior varsity team. Kingman concluded the scoring in the 77th minute on an assist from her sister Georgia, another freshman call-up.

Junior Alexandria Reckas also scored for the Lancers after missing the last two weeks with a concussion. Her goal came off an assist from Caroline Olivero in the 23rd minute.

Although the Lancers hoping for another shot at WCAL rival Mitty, a team that has handed them two of their three losses on the season, the bracket has opened up well for St. Francis - at least on paper - as the fifth-seeded Eagles will be the highest-seeded team the Lancers face in the tournament.
