Towering junior striker Brad Bumgarner produced a hat trick to help Mountain View to a 5-0 win over host Saratoga Friday afternoon in SCVAL-De Anza Division boys soccer action Friday afternoon. The win placed the Spartans (7-1-2, 1-0-1 in SCVAL-DA) in a three-way tie atop the division along with Santa Clara and Gunn. The match was the league opener for the Falcons (4-3-1, 0-1).
Senior Chris Barnes and sophomore Alejandro Guerrero also scored for Mountain View, which built a 3-0 lead by halftime. Junior Guillermo Burger posted three assists and junior Josue Aguilar added a pair of assists for the Spartans, who are looking for their fifth straight overall league title and fourth in a row in the SCVAL-DA.
Seniors Kevin Bastoul and Joseph Candanoza also notched assists for Mountain View. Junior goalkeeper Daniel Ballesteros recorded two saves to post the shutout.
Mountain View's next game is Wednesday afternoon (3:30 pm) against Los Altos. Saratoga also has its next match against the Eagles with a Monday afternoon (3:30 pm) visit to Los Altos.
