August 30, 2015

Napa high football rolled to the easy 54-21 win Friday night with a win over Montgomery-Santa Rosa. It wasn't just another win for coach Troy Mott it was a milestone win as he passed Les Franco as the winningest coach in NHS history.

“It’s extra special just because I grew up in this community, I was born and raised here and went to Napa High School and played sports for Napa High,” said Mott on passing Les Franco for most wins in school history.

The first half was all Napa as it led 41-0 at the half.

In the first quarter Napa scored just once on a run from Parker Totty who ended up with 10 carries for 77 yards and 2 TDs.

Napa put up a 34 point second quarter. The first coming on a Cal Bard pass to Alec Richmond for 29 yards with an Austin Spinelli run for the two point conversion with 9:11 left. With 7:04 left Bard scored on a 2-yard rush to keep the momentum going for the Indians.

“The inexperience came out in the second quarter” said Montgomery coach Michael Bautista.

In the second half Montgomery came to life, but it was too little, too late. The Vikings got a score from Bryce Burroughs as he connected with Austin Rapolla for a 80 yard touchdown reception with 11:45 left in the third.

After the game went final, linemen Isaiah West and Roman Ruffino gave the coach a Gatorade bath, and the team was chanting “Mott, Mott, Mott!”

Andrew Hall, a member of his coaching staff, presented him with the game ball.

“I might keep it, since it was presented to me by my coaching staff” Mott said.

In Mott's time at Napa, he has an astounding record of 77-30 with three MEL titles and a CIF Sac-Joaquin section championship. He has also led Napa to numerous playoff appearances, along with beating rival Vintage every year since he’s become head coach.
