St. John Bosco beats Los Alamitos in Nike Extravaganza

February 5, 2018

SANTA ANA, CA - Saturday morning action of the 23rd Nike Extravaganza tipped off with St. John Bosco dismantling Los Alamitos, 68-31. Joshua Adoh (15 points) and Fernando Gomez (11 points) led the charge for Bosco, in an absolute blowout.

“No matter what team we play we’re going to play our hardest,” Adoh said. “That’s us, it’s who we are, we’re Bosco.”

Senior forward Jacob Eyman scored 11 points and grabbed 11 rebounds for Los Alamitos. Bosco jumped out to a 12-7 lead early and never looked back. Both teams played fast up-tempo styles, and the Braves jumped into passing lanes and came away with multiple steals leading to transition baskets.

Jonathan Salazar (10 points) opened the second quarter with a huge dunk, and Bosco nailed a three one possession later. Adoh scorched two threes from the wing and then knocked in two free throws to put Bosco ahead 27-12. The Braves took a 15-point lead into halftime with nine team steals, as opposed to Los Al’s two steals.

By the time the fourth quarter hit, Bosco’s aggressive defense had completely worn out Los Alamitos. Eyman was able to hit some shots, but he was the only major contributor for the Griffins. Los Alamitos finished the game shooting just 20 percent and committing 19 turnovers, two statistics that sealed their fate.

Bosco stole the ball 15 times and shot 39 percent from beyond the three-point line. Both teams struggled from the free throw line, shooting close to 50 percent. The Braves outscored Los Alamitos 23-6 in the third to blow the game open, behind another big Salazar-Adoh quarter of play.

Los Alamitos falls to 9-16 and has now lost two games in a row. The Griffins will finish up regular season play against Huntington Beach and Newport Harbor. Bosco improves to 19-6 after the victory. The Braves, who have won two of their last three, are 4-4 in Trinity League play and travel to Servite before ending the season at home against JSerra Catholic.
