Bellarmine broke open a close game with 21 unanswered points in the second quarter and rolled to a 35-14 win over visiting Sacred Heart Cathedral in a West Catholic Athletic League game Friday night. The Bells improved to 5-1 overall, 2-1 in the WCAL; the Irish fell to 3-3, 0-3.
Senior quarterback Griffin Quinn passed for two touchdowns and rushed for two scores to lead the Bells, who trailed 7-0 in the first quarter on a one-yard TD run by Logan White. That sparked a 28-0 Bellarmine run that was capped by a 13-yard run by Quinn late in the second quarter. Quinn finished with 121 yards passing and 65 yards rushing.
Quinn tossed a 75-yard score to Kyle Macauley and a 37-yarder to Josh Bringuel. Antonio Garcia added a two-yard rushing touchdown to pull the Bells even at 7-7 in the first quarter.
Sacred Heart Cathedral broke the 28-point run on a one-yard touchdown run by Jamar Williams-Sheppard.
