College Park edges Campolindo

February 7, 2018

PLEASANT HILL, CA - Tied at 57-all with 1:17 left, College Park's Ryan Taheri hit a field goal and Zyon Pullin hit three free throws to hold off Campolindo, 64-61, in a key DAL-Foothill battle on Tuesday night.

“We were evenly matched against Campolindo” said College Park coach Craig Battle. “These guys stayed strong to pull out the win.”

Pullin led the Falcons with 24 points.

“We had to put up a fight to pull this one off,” said Pullin.

In the beginning of the fourth quarter, tied at 46-all, the host Falcons (17-5, 4-3 DAL-Foothill) started out strong with a two-pointer from Pullin and a long shot from Helsing. The Cougars countered with two jump shots from Carter Mahaney and a pair of layups from Trevin Kroichick to tie the game at 57-all with 1:17 left. Kroichick added two free throws to give the Cougars a 59-58 lead with 55 seconds to play. However, Taheri hit a runner and Pullin got to the line late to stave off Campolindo.

The Cougars opened the second half with three-pointers from David Ahazie and Will Cummins to jump to a 38-30 lead with 6:30 left in the third quarter. College Park fought back and outscored the Cougars with a three-pointer and jump shot from Pullin, and a three-pointer from Dre Sunga to take a 40-38 lead with four minutes left in the third. The Cougars responded with a three-pointer from Mahaney and a field goal from Kroichick to tie the game at 46-all at the end of the third quarter.

College Park led for most of the first half as Diego Paredes hit a layup and three-pointer, and Sunga hit a long three-pointer. However, Campolindo kept on fighting back as Kroichick had a pair of layups, and Ahazie hit two three-pointers, including a half-court shot as time expired in the half to give the Cougars a 32-25 lead at the break.

The Cougars were led by Carter Mahaney with 16 points.

On Friday, Campolindo (16-7, 4-3 DAL-Foothill) travels to Clayton Valley, while College Park travels to Acalanes.
