Miramonte routs Alameda

September 16, 2017

ORINDA, CA - Peter Stehr had eight carries for 157 yards and three rushing touchdowns, and also added a receiving touchdown as Miramonte cruised to a 47-6 win over visiting Alameda.

On Miramonte's opening drive, Stehr led the way for the Matadors and ran one in from 17 yards out. During Alameda’s next drive, on third down, quarterback Andrew Millpointer threw an interception that was picked off by defensive back Kelian Stone.

On the first play on the next possession, senior quarterback Xavier Clark threw a screen pass to receiver Sam Walker, who broke a few tackles and ran it all the way for a 32-yard touchdown. Early in the second quarter, after a nice balanced attack of rushing and a couple nice of passes from Clark,  Stehr scored another 17-yard touchdown that put the Matatdors up 20-0.

“We have four returning offensive linemen and Nick Miller has really stepped up, so we have five offensive linemen of all star caliber," said Miramonte coach Jack Schram. "We have great running backs in Stehr and (Henry) Vacakis, and also our other running backs ran hard today, too."

Late in the second quarter, Vacakis ran one in from seven yards away and that put them up 27 to 0. Miramonte scored again with under one minute until halftime when Stehr caught a pass from Clark and brought it in from 22 yards out.

It was looking like Miramonte was going to shutout Alameda in the first half, but on the kickoff after Miramonte’s previous touchdown, Alameda's Jacob Lang took it 90 yards to the house for the Hornets' lone score of the night.

In the second half, Miramonte added two more touchdowns, with one coming on a 61 yard run from Stehr just one minute into the second half. The final score of the game came on a 15-yard run by Vacakis.

Miramonte will put its undefeated record on the line next week, when the Matadors visit Alhambra, while Alameda plays at home against Skyline.
