CCS Senior of the Year
ANNIE KINGMAN, MF, ST. FRANCIS

Annie Kingman wrapped up her high school career at St. Francis with an impressive resume, and her senior season performance is deserving of the award of Prep2Prep Central Coast Section Senior of the Year.

The midfielder was a leader on a St. Francis team that battled injuries throughout the season that prevented it from not reach its full potential. The Lancers got off to a quick start to the season, winning their first five games of the year by a combined score of 28-0, including a 9-0 victory over Madera.

“It was the best I've seen our team play in my four years at at St. Francis,” said Kingman.

But at the end of preseason they had lost some key players and began to slow down.

“We essentially spent the whole season trying to get back the rhythm we had in beginning,” said Kingman, “We worked really hard and did get back to near full strength, but it wasn't quite enough in the end.”

The team finished with a record of 14-6-1. The Lancers fell to Mitty in the WCAL semifinals, and their season ended with a loss to St. Ignatius in the CCS quarterfinals.

Kingman ended her senior season with a bang, scoring 17 goals with 8 assists in 15 games. Last season she scored 24 goals and 14 assists in 22 games.

Kingman’s abilities to strike, pass, and visualize shots are what gave her the opportunity to take her talents to a storied women’s soccer program at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill this coming fall.

“As I am a fairly competitive person, I feel like I have found the perfect school for me in UNC," she said. "I couldn't be more excited and honored to get to play for such an amazing program."

While Kingman will not get another shot at a CCS title, she will join a Tar Heels team with 21 national championships. The high school star was groomed at St. Francis, and she is ready to take her talents to the next level.

“I am extremely grateful to have been a part of St. Francis,” said Kingman, “I have learned so much about leadership and what it means to be a teammate. I will definitely miss it.”
