CCS Junior of the Year
FALLON DEXHEIMER, VALLEY CHRISTIAN

We looked at the group of juniors in the Central Coast Section with a fine tooth comb for someone that could catapult past last year’s Prep2Prep girls basketball Sophomore of the Year, but in the end of the juniors we saw, and those that were Honorable Mention on the All-Bay Area News Group Girls Basketball team, none of the girls had the resume and overall body of work of Dexheimer.

The result is despite some other girls having slightly better numbers, Dexheimer, a lightning quick 5-8 combo guard that actually led the Warriors in scoring, repeats as a winner in her class and is the 2019 Prep2Prep Central Coast Section Girls Basketball Junior of the Year.

This past season, and on a team that went 17-10 and finished second in the West Catholic Athletic League, the WCAL All-League First Team selection averaged 14.0 points per game, despite her height Dexheimer and her 5.0 rebounds per game was second on the Warriors, and her 2.5 assists and 2.4 steals per game were the team’s leaders. Fallon also led the team with 59 three-pointers.

It wasn’t her season high but her best game came with Prep2Prep in the house at Archbishop Mitty in a surprisingly close 77-67 loss. On the same night All-Everything Haley Jones was setting the all-time Mitty scoring record, Dexheimer dropped in 22 points on 8-of-15 shooting and 4-of-7 on three-pointers. That performance in that circumstance coupled with what she did during the rest of the season pretty much sealed the deal for this award.

Dexheimer was a model of consistency after scoring in double-digits in 16 games, and going for 20 or more points seven times with a season-high of 25 points in a win over Wilcox. She even had two double-doubles.

When we said Dexheimer was lightning quick we may have been exaggerating a bit, but not by much. This past season Fallon ran track for the Warriors and finished second at the WCAL Meet in the 200 Meter Dash with a time of 26.17, was a member of the 4x100 team that won the WCAL title and finished second at the CCS Track and Field Championships, and was a member of the 4x400 team that finished second at the WCAL Meet. She will be competing this weekend at the CIF State Track and Field Championships in Fresno where the 48.35 time in the 4x100 is the No. 15 mark in the state entering the meet.

The Warriors likely won’t medal, but for a basketball player to be part of a 4x100 team that is getting this far is quite an accomplishment.

Congratulations and good luck to Dexheimer, the Prep2Prep Central Coast Section Girls Basketball Junior of the Year.

Finalists for the junior of the year award were Charlotte Levinson of Sacred Heart Prep and Lydia Manu of Aragon, while others given consideration were Elise Corwin of Wilcox, Talita Falepapalangi of Sequoia, DeDe Franklin of Eastside College Prep, Kelly Heimburger of Presentation, Kayla Martillano of Andrew Hill and Anika Prasad of Saratoga.

NOTE: We would like to thank our media partners, coaches, parents, players and fans for contributing photos for our all-section features. We salute all of the players that have made this a wonderful season of CCS basketball.
