SJS Sophomore of the Year
TYLER GREEN, UTIL, CHRISTIAN BROTHERS

Green became a force in the defensive secondary for Christian Brothers, emerging as the leading ball hawk in the section and helping the Falcons reach the section title game.

Over the course of 14 games, Green finished with 12 interceptions, including three in a superb performance against Cordova. In the first round of the playoffs, Christian Brothers saw its playoff run come into jeopardy against the Lancers, but the sophomore standout responded with one of the top games of any player in the section.

Defensively, Green snagged three picks, including a diving one which ended Cordova’s comeback bid late in the fourth quarter. And he added to his single-game legacy on the offensive side, where he had two catches for 84 yards, both of which resulted in touchdowns. The second touchdown was a leaping, one-handed grab while sailing towards the back of the end zone, one which gave the Falcons a 16-point lead midway through the final period.

Green continued to play well throughout the post-season, recording interceptions in playoff wins over both Burbank and American Canyon. For the year, he also demonstrated multiple ways to find the end zone. Aside from the pair of receiving scores against Cordova, Green scored on a 46-yard fumble return against Winters, an interception return against Stagg, a 68-yard punt return against Mira Loma, and a 61-yard interception return against Rio Americano.

The production was evident in all phases of the game, especially down the stretch. Green caught passes in the last six games of the season, and had interceptions in eight different games. Aside from the three against Cordova, he also registered multi-pick games against Stagg and Casa Roble. The two interceptions against Stagg helped preserve a 35-32 victory. He also returned kickoffs and punts throughout the season.

For his play in every aspect of the game, but especially as a game-changing threat at every position, Tyler Green is the Prep2Prep 2016 Sac-Joaquin Sophomore of the Year.
