NCS Sophomore of the Year
A'JAE BOYD, PITTSBURG

Boyd burst on the scene in his first year playing at the varsity level, leading Pittsburg with 50 catches for 691 yards and eight touchdowns, and earning unanimous first-team All-BVAL honors. Even more impressive was the respect he earned around the league and the region for his competitive play, and the reviews he gets as an off-field student and citizen in the Pittsburg community.

In addition to his success on the offensive side of the ball, Boyd also totaled 39 tackles and was the team’s primary kick and punt returner, finishing the year with over 1,000 all-purpose yards. He also showed why he will be a leader for the next two years with his fierce play in a section semifinal loss to De La Salle.

“He’s a student-athlete who just gets what it takes to be successful,” said Pittsburg coach Vic Galli, the program’s all-time wins leader. “The big moments are not too big for him. That is when he steps up and plays his best.”

Off the field, Boyd maintains a high grade point average, and is even active in the larger school district community, serving on student committees at the district level. He is no doubt a rising star both in the Pittsburg football program and among the top athletes in the North Coast Section.
