CCS Sophomore of the Year
JAVIER FELIX, SANTA CRUZ

After sitting out the first part of the season due to his transfer, Felix burst back on the baseball scene, collecting hits in all but three games this year, and also dominating on the mound.

His best performance came arguably in the first round of the Open Division playoffs, when Felix held Bellarmine to just four hits in 6 2/3 innings, and struck out eight in a huge win over the Bells. He also went 2-for-2 in the game, walked in his other at-bat, and scored two of the Cardinals’ four runs.

Felix’s post-season performance followed up what was a dominant stretch on the mound during the regular season. He went 4-0 with a 0.57 ERA in his four starts, including a complete-game 1-0, nine-inning win over Los Gatos in his first start of the season, striking out 12 in the process. Opposing batters hit just .105 against Felix in his four starts.

The sophomore also showed the ability to pitch in relief, closing out a win over Aptos in early May with a six-strikeout performance over three and two-thirds innings. He already has Division I offers, including San Diego State.

At the plate, Felix hit .444 with three home runs in 14 games, and that does not include his performance against Bellarmine. After sitting out all of March, he hit safely in his first four games, and in 10 of his first 11 games. That included nine hits in the first four games.

Away from the mound, Felix also made an impact in the field at third base for the Cardinals, including a tremendous performance in a quarterfinal loss to Valley Christian, where he recorded six outs and turned a double play from the hot corner.
