CCS Freshman of the Year
EDDIE PARK, VALLEY CHRISTIAN

Not many freshmen can step in and make an immediate impact in the West Catholic Athletic League. Park not only made an impact on the league, but on the entire section, playing a key role in the Warriors’ run for the Open Division championship.

Park made his presence both at the plate and in the field, especially when he took the mound. As a hitter, Park batted .337 with 10 RBI and eight stolen bases. As both an outfielder and pitcher, he did not commit an error all season, and took the hill in clutch situations for Valley Christian.

In the Open Division playoffs, Park ate up three innings on the mound in a 10-3 win over Willow Glen, holding a strong Rams lineup to just two hits and one run. For the year, he was 3-1 with a 0.75 ERA in eight appearances for the Warriors.

In the CCS title game against Serra, Park reached base in two of his three at-bats. He drew a key walk and scored as part of a four-run fourth inning as the Warriors turned a 2-0 deficit into a 4-2 lead, which they managed to keep to claim the championship.

Twice during the season, Park displayed amazing consistency for a freshman playing against the best competition. In late April and early May, he put together an eight-game hitting streak, highlighted by a three-hit day in a 3-1 win over Saint Ignatius. Earlier, in late March and early April, Park compiled a seven-game hitting streak, culminating with a three-hit, two-RBI effort in a 6-5 win over Saint Francis.

Playing in a league which produced both finalists for the CCS Open Division title, and three of the four semifinalists, Park shined brightest against the best. He hit .422 in WCAL play, and was 5-for-5 on stolen base attempts against league opponents.

Other players considered: Mitty’s Nick Yorke, Silver Creek’s Edward Leglu, and Mountain View’s James Hoyt.

NOTE: We would like to thank our media partners, coaches, parents, players and fans for contributing photos for our all-section features. We salute all of the players that have made this a wonderful season of CCS baseball.
