St. Ignatius finishes with the top spot as we conclude our 2017-18 rankings for the year. Despite losing in the Open semis, Alisal claims the No. 2 spot as we do our best to balance regular-season and postseason performance.

Despite losing several high-level players to graduation, St. Ignatius repeated as WCAL and CCS Open Division champions.

2 (1) ALISAL (15-2-4)
Last: lost to Burlingame, 2-0; next: vs. Galt (3/6)

After an escape act to get past Los Altos in the first round, Alisal was knocked out of the Open Division semifinals by Burlingame.

3 (2) LOS GATOS (17-1-2)
Last: lost to St. Ignatius, 2-0; next: at Folsom (3/6)

Los Gatos advanced in the Open Division playoff by beating Watsonville, but was unable to get past St. Ignatius in the semis.

4 (4) ARCHBISHOP MITTY (14-1-6)
Last: DNP; next: idle

The Monarchs ended their season in the first round of the Open Division playoffs, losing 2-0 to Burlingame.

5 (9) BURLINGAME (14-3-4)
Last: lost to St. Ignatius, 2-1; next: at De La Salle (3/6)

Burlingame pulled off an impressive double by knocking off Mitty and Alisal in successive matches before falling 2-1 to St. Ignatius in the Open Division final.

6 (11) BELLARMINE COLLEGE PREP (14-6-4)
Last: def. St. Francis, 1-0; next: vs. Bishop O'Dowd (3/6)

Bellarmine captured the Division 1 title with a 1-0 win over WCAL rival St. Francis.

7 (5) ST. FRANCIS (14-5-6)
Last: lost to Bellarmine, 1-0; next: idle

After knocking off San Benito in the semifinals, the Lancers came up short in the Division 1 title game against rival Bellarmine.

8 (7) OVERFELT (14-4-2)

Overfelt's season ended with a 3-0 loss to St. Ignatius in the first round of the Open Division playoffs.

9 (6) SAN BENITO (11-4-8)

The Balers' season ended with a 2-0 loss to St. Francis in the CCS Division 1 semifinals.

10 (8) SOLEDAD (16-2-4)
Last: lost to Mt. Pleasant, 6-3; next: idle

Soledad's season ended in a wild 6-3 loss to Mt. Pleasant in the CCS Division 2 semifinals.

Watsonville's season ended in a 1-0 loss to Los Gatos in the Open Division playoffs.

Lincoln's bid at a third consecutive Division 1 title died in a 1-0 home loss against Bellarmine.

The Padres' season ended with a 5-1 loss to San Benito in the Division 1 quarterfinals.

Los Altos was minutes away from pulling off the upset at Alisal and then once again to force a penalty-kick shootout before ultimately falling 3-1 in overtime.

Palo Alto's season ended with a loss to Bellarmine in the Division 1 semifinals.

16 (16) PROSPECT (12-6-3)

Prospect's season ended in a first-round loss to Menlo in the Division 2 playoffs.

Gonzales was upset in the first round by Sacred Heart Cathedral, ending its season at 14-4-1.

Mt. Pleasant captured the Division 2 title with a win over Sacred Heart Cathedral, but had its title stripped for use of an ineligible player.

The Bears capped an interesting season that saw them start 1-6-1 and finish in the Division 1 quarterfinals with a 4-3 loss to Palo Alto.

20 (19) NORTH MONTEREY COUNTY (12-6-2)

North Monterey County was not eligible for postseason play after having to forfeit several games, but had a strong season on the field, finishing fourth in the competitive MBL-Gabilan Division.

21 (23) SACRED HEART CATHEDRAL (12-9-3)
Last: def. Mt. Pleasant, 1-0; next: idle

The Irish knocked off Saratoga in the Division 2 semifinals before losing to Mt. Pleasant in the championship match. However, the Irish were awarded the title on a forfeit.

22 (20) ANDREW HILL (9-8-3)

After getting past Leland in penalty kicks, the Falcons saw their season come to an end in a 2-1 loss at St. Francis.

23 (21) LELAND (14-4-3)

The BVAL-Santa Teresa champs had their season end in a penalty-kick shootout loss to Andrew Hill after the teams played to a goalless draw.

24 (24) ALVAREZ (9-6-6)

Alvarez saw its season end in a penalty-kick shootout in the first round against Menlo-Atherton.

25 (25) LATINO COLLEGE PREP (15-2-5)

Latino College Prep picked up the program's first playoff win by knocking off Half Moon Bay before falling to Sacred Heart Cathedral in penalties.
