October 18, 2023

A huge come-from-behind St. Ignatius propels the Wildcats up to No. 6 in the latest Prep2Prep CCS Top 25 with the top two teams in the rankings scheduled for a showdown Saturday afternoon in San Mateo.

Note: Last week's rankings in parentheses

There doesn’t appear to be any stopping the rampaging Padres, who improved to 7-0 overall (4-0 WCAL) with a 54-16 rout of Bellarmine. Serra is averaging 50.5 points per game in the WCAL and has allowed just 33 points in four games. The Padres are expecting perhaps their toughest Saturday afternoon when they host explosive Archbishop Riordan.

The dynamic Riordan offense continued its explosive ways as senior Charlie Johnson ran for 217 yards and 4 TDs in a 56-42 win over Archbishop Mitty. Next up for the Crusaders, who are averaging nearly 50 points per game in the WCAL, is a battle for first place against No. 1 Serra, which is also 4-0 in league play.

Saint Francis knocked off Sacred Heart Cathedral, 44-22, to improve to 3-1 in the WCAL. The Lancers face a key battle Friday night at home against Valley Christian.

Senior QB AJ Minyard completed all four of his passes - two for TDs - for 100 yards as Los Gatos cruised to a 55-2 win over Mountain View. The 'Cats visit Burlingame Thusrday night ahead of a showdown with Wilcox October 27.

Salinas struggled, but managed to hold off Monterey, 26-18, to improve to 3-0 in the PCAL-Gabilan. The Cowboys visit Alvarez Friday night.

SI came away with a huge come-from-behind 15-14 victory over Valley Christian. Junior QB Soren Hummel completed 18 of 32 passes for 213 yards and 1 TD for the Wilcats, who take on rival Sacred Heart Cathedral in the Bruce-Mahoney game Friday night.

Senior RB Elijah Walker rushed for 141 yards and 3 TDs in a 41-7 win at Burlingame as Wilcox improved to 3-0 in the PAL-Bay Division. The Chargers take a third straight trip up the Peninsula when they visit Sacred Heart Prep Friday night.

The QB duo of Mikey McGrath and Jack Freehill combined for 271 yards passing and 2 TDs as undefeated Menlo took charge of the PAL-De Anza race with a 19-13 win over Hillsdale. The Knights visit The King's Academy Friday night.

Valley Christian let a 14-0 lead slip away and lost 15-14 at home against St Ignatius to drop to 2-2 in the WCAL. The Warriors travel to Mountain View to take on Saint Francis Friday night.

Mitty put up a good fight, but fell 56-42 at Archbishop Riordan. The Monarchs host San Jose rival Bellarmine Friday night.

Senior QB Thomas Nunes completed 11 of 17 passes for 253 yards and 2 TDs and rushed for 86 yards and 1 TD in a 52-41 win over Aptos that kept Palma in the hunt for the PCAL-Gabilan title. The Chieftains host Soquel in a battle for second place Friday night at home.

Aptos dropped its second in a row, falling 52-41 against Palma. The Mariners travel to Monterey Saturday afternoon.

Junior QB Jaxen Robinson completed 11 of 18 passes for 164 yards and 3 TDs as Christopher remained undefeated with a 45-13 win over Santa Teresa. The Cougars travel to San Jose to take on Lincoln Thursday night.

The Bells fell to 0-4 in the WCAL with a 54-16 loss at Serra. Bellarmine's playoff hopes are on the line when it visits rival Archbishop Mitty Friday night.

Senior QB Erick Waugh completed 19 of 38 passes for 254 yards and 1 TD, but Hillsdale suffered its first loss, 19-13 against undefeated Menlo. The Fightin' Knights will look to get back on track Friday night when they host Palo Alto.

The Gators picked up an overtime win at Menlo-Atherton to improve to 2-1 in the PAL-Bay. Sacred Heart Prep hosts Wilcox Saturday afternoon.

Junior QB Luke Newell completed 10 of 15 passes for 180 yards and 3 TDs in a 44-13 win over Leland. The undefeated Acorns host Santa Teresa Friday night.

Soquel improved to 3-1 in the PCAL-Gabilan with a 14-10 win over Hollister. The Knights travel to Palma Friday night in a battle of teams jockeying for second place in the league.

Carmel remained unbeaten with a 42-27 win at Rancho San Juan. The Padres aren't likely to face much opposition in their next two home games against King City and Soledad before wrapping up the season at Pacific Grove.

The Bears' struggles continued as they lost for the fourth time in five games, falling 27-21 to Sacred Heart Prep in overtime. M-A travels to Mountain View Friday night.

Hollister has now lost 5 of 6 following a 14-10 defeat at Soquel. The Balers are off this week, and they will be fighting for their playoff lives in their final two games against Aptos and Salinas.

Senior RB Justin Pascone rushed for 172 yards and 3 TDs in a 50-6 win over previously unbeaten Pacific Grove. North Salinas visits Rancho San Juan Friday night.

Monterey needs at least one more win to clinch a CCS playoff spot and hosts Aptos Saturday afternoon.
