Prep2Prep CCS Rankings

THROUGH WEEK 11

November 9, 2023

The top 8 teams in our rankings conform to the CCS playoff bracket with a few shifts in the seedings. WCAL teams are overwhelming favorites to capture the top 3 divisions (Open, Division 1, Division 2) now that Archbishop Mitty has landed the No. 1 seed in Division 2.

Note: Last week's rankings in parentheses

After having never done it before, Serra completed its second straight perfect regular season with a 43-10 beatdown of St. Ignatius. The Padres will be prohibitive favorites as the No. 1 seed in the Open/D1 playoffs, beginning with Salinas in the first round.

Saint Francis struggled in the early going against rival Bellarmine, but ultimately pulled away for a 28-10 win to finish in sole possession of second place in the WCAL. The Lancers host No. 7 seed Wilcox in the Open/Division 1 playoffs.

According to our rankings, Archbishop Riordan is underseeded at No. 5 in the Open/Division 1 bracket. The Crusaders, who wound up in third place in the WCAL following a 49-19 win over rival Sacred Heart Cathedral, will visit No. 4 seed Los Gatos in the first round.

Los Gatos wrapped up a perfect PAL-Bay season with a 30-6 win over Menlo-Atherton. The Wildcats are the No. 4 seed in the Open/Division 1 playoffs and will host Archbishop Riordan.

Salinas completed an unbeaten PCAL-Gabilan regular season with a 21-12 win over Hollister. The Cowboys earned the unenviable task of a visit to No. 1 Serra in the first round of the Open/Division 1 playoffs.

As expected, Wilcox had no trouble with crosstown rival Santa Clara in a 60-14 victory to wrap up the regular season. The Chargers are the No. 7 seed in the Open/Division 1 playoffs and travel to Mountain View to take on Saint Francis.

SI closed out the regular season with a 43-10 loss to Serra to finish fourth outright in the WCAL. However, the Wildcats earned a generous No. 3 seed in the Open/Division 1 playoffs and will host No .6 Valley Christian in the first round.

Valley Christian appears to be a sleeping giant after closing out the regular season with a surprisingly one-sided 35-0 rout of Archbishop Mitty. The Warriors came into that game on a three-game losing streak, but the losses were by one point to SI and they played Saint Francis and Serra extremely close. Valley Christian gets a rematch with SI in the first round of the Open/Division 1 playoffs.

One of the surprise teams in CCS, Soquel finished second in the deep PCAL-Gabilan Division with a 26-14 win at Aptos. The Knights are the No. 2 seed in Division 2 and will host Carmel.

The bad news is Mitty was blasted 35-0 by Valley Christian in the regular-season finale and finished fifth in the WCAL. The good news is the Monarchs avoided a potential rematch with No. 1 Serra and instead are the No. 1 seed in Division 2, where they will host No. 8 seed Christopher.

Live Oak defeated Christopher in a battle of unbeatens to claim the BVAL-Mount Hamilton title. The Acorns secured the No. 4 seed in the Division 2 playoffs, setting up a difficult matchup against No. 5 Menlo.

SHP defeated cross-street rival Menlo, 31-19, to wrap up an up-and-down regular season. The Gators are the No. 3 seed in Division 2 and will host No. 6 Monterey.

Menlo lost out on a potential first-round home game with a 31-19 loss against rival Sacred Heart Prep. Instead, the Knights will travel to Morgan Hill to take on BVAL-MH champ Live Oak.

Christopher fell short of a perfect regular season with a 28-24 loss to Live Oak. The Cougars are the No. 8 seed in Division 2 and face a daunting trip to take on Archbishop Mitty - the only WCAL playoff team not in the Open/Division 1 bracket - in the first round.

The Dores recovered from a midseason three-game losing streak by winning their last three games, closing out with a 50-13 thrashing of Seaside. Monterey is the No. 6 seed in Division 2 and will travel to Atherton to take on Sacred Heart Prep.

Palma had little trouble dispatching Alvarez 41-20 to finish in a tie for third with Monterey in the PCAL-Gabilan. The Chieftains landed as the No. 4 seed in Division 3 and are set for a rematch with league rival Hollister.

The Balers put up a good fight, but fell 21-12 to Salinas to wind up fifth in the PCAL-Gabilan. As the No. 5 seed in Division 3, Hollister gets a rematch with league rival Palma, which won the regular-season matchup 31-30.

The Bells are quite likely the best team to not make the CCS field after putting up a strong fight in a 28-10 loss to Saint Francis. Bellarmine ends the season 2-8 (1-6 in the WCAL).

Carmel completed an undefeated PCAL-Mission South season with a 42-21 win over Pacific Grove. The Padres are the No. 7 seed in Division 2 and will travel to Soquel for the first round.

Scotts Valley was awarded a forfeit against Santa Cruz to complete a perfect season in the PCAL-Mission North. The Falcons are the No. 6 seed in Division 3 and will travel to San Mateo to take on Aragon.

M-A lost 30-6 to league champ Los Gatos to finish fourth in the PAL-Bay Division. The Bears are the No. 1 seed in Division 3 and will host Hillsdale in the first round.

Aptos closed out the regular season on a five-game losing streak, falling 26-14 to Soquel in the finale. The Mariners finish the season with a record of 2-8 (1-5 PCAL-Gabilan).

Capuchino was awarded a forfeit over Mills to finish 9-1 overall. The PAL-Ocean champs are the No. 2 seed in Division 3 and will host Alisal.

Aragon knocked off Hillsdale, 34-7, to complete an 8-2 regular season. The Dons are the No. 3 seed in Division 3 and will host Scotts Valley.

Alisal wrapped up the regular season with a 41-13 win over Rancho San Juan to clinch second place outright in the PCAL-Mission South. The seventh-seeded Trojans will visit No. 2 Capuchino in the first round of the Division 3 playoffs.
