Frankie Ferrari, a transfer from Burlingame, has been a key contributor for fourth-ranked Riordan.
(Aakash Gupta/Prep2Prep)
Prep2Prep CCS Boys Basketball Rankings
THROUGH January 27, 2013
1 (last week: 1)
ARCHBISHOP MITTY
(15-4)
Last week: def. Bellarmine, 72-67 (OT), def. St. Ignatius, 57-44; next: vs. St. Francis (1/30)
Mitty had to scrap for an overtime victory over Bellarmine before handling St. Ignatius to remain unbeaten in the WCAL. Despite missing a few free throws, star forward Aaron Gordon exploded for 33 points in the win over the Bells.
2 (2)
SERRA
(16-3)
Last week: def. Sacred Heart Cathedral, 60-44, def. St. Francis, 78-50; next: vs. Archbishop Riordan (1/30)
The Padres turned in a pair of workmanlike victories to take a firm grip on second place in the WCAL. Senior forward Henry Caruso once again led the way with 22 against SHC and senior guard Jacqui Biggins picked up the slack with 17 in the win over the Lancers.
3 (5)
BELLARMINE COLLEGE PREP
(14-5)
Last week: lost to Archbishop Mitty, 72-67 (2 OT), def. Sacred Heart Cathedral, 74-43; next: at Valley Christian (1/30)
Despite the tough overtime loss to Mitty, it was a productive week for the Bells, who stunned SHC with a 32-3 first-quarter en route to the surprisingly easy victory. Grant Vermeer led the Bells with 14 points and junior Dylan Tarpening added 13.
4 (7)
ARCHBISHOP RIORDAN
(13-6)
Last week: def. St. Ignatius, 42-33, def. Valley Christian, 74-49; next: at Archbishop Riordan (1/23)
The Crusaders are back in the mix for a possible top-three finish after sweeping SI and Valley Christian. However, a brutal week awaits as Riordan visits Serra and Mitty to go along with a home game against Bellarmine.
5 (4)
ST. IGNATIUS
(13-6)
Last week: lost to Archbishop Riordan, 42-33, lost to Archbishop Mitty, 57-44; next: vs. Sacred Heart Cathedral (1/30)
It was a tough week for the Wildcats, who fell into a three-way tie for fourth with losses to Riordan and Mitty.
Junior center Nick Loew has helped Burlingame move into the
top 20 of the latest P2P rankings.
