Prep2Prep contributor Chris Hernandez (Hillsdale High School) captures Hillsdale senior Angelo Baustia as he lets fly from 3-point range with Aragon's Isiah Atchan defends. Baustia scored all 12 of his points on treys, but Aragon won the game, 67-61, to pull into a tie for third place in the competitive PAL-South Division.

Head of the Class

APTOS C Cole Welle steps to the head of the class in Week 9 for his outstanding performance as the Mariners (16-5, 7-2 SCCAL) won three games to stay alive in the race for the Santa Cruz County Athletic League championship. Welle, a junior, had 17 points, 10 rebounds and six blocked shots in a 63-61 win over previously unbeaten SOQUEL , 24 points, 17 rebounds and nine blocks in a 52-29 win over ST. FRANCIS CCC and 22 points, 14 rebounds and three blocks in a 70-54 win over HARBOR .

Dean's List

David Awolowo, F, GUNDERSON . The sophomore had 16 points, 12 rebounds and three blocks in a win over PIONEER and 15 points, 12 rebounds and three blocks in a win over LINCOLN .

Henry Caruso, F, SERRA . The senior scored 22 points in a win over SACRED HEART CATHEDRAL and 14 points in a win over ST. FRANCIS .

David Gonzalez, F, GILROY . The senior had 21 points and six rebounds in a win over NORTH MONTEREY COUNTY and 17 points and seven rebounds in a win over WATSONVILLE .

Aaron Gordon, F, ARCHBISHOP MITTY . The senior scored 33 points in an overtime win over BELLARMINE COLLEGE PREP and had 20 points and 10 rebounds in a win over ST. IGNATIUS .

Anthony Gumberg, F, JEWISH COMMUNITY . The senior had 24 points and 19 rebounds in a win over MID-PENINSULA and 25 points and 18 rebounds in a win over KEHILLAH JEWISH .

Jack Heneghan, G, MENLO SCHOOL . The junior had 21 points and three steals in a win over CRYSTAL SPRINGS , 19 points and five steals in a win over PINEWOOD , and 22 points and six steals in a win over HARKER SCHOOL .

Zach Loo, G, GILROY . The junior scored 18 points in a win over NORTH MONTEREY COUNTY and 18 points in a win over WATSONVILLE .

Alex Manu, G, ARAGON . The junior scored 19 points in a win over MENLO-ATHERTON and 16 points in a win over HILLSDALE .

Dre Perez, G, TRINITY CHRISTIAN . The junior scored 41 points total in a pair of wins over ANCHORPOINT CHRISTIAN .

Michael Smith, F, EL CAMINO . The senior had 34 points and 10 rebounds in a win over JEFFERSON and 31 points and eight rebounds in a win over OCEANA .
