    Menlo-Atherton downs Hillsdale in key PAL contest

    Menlo-Atherton scored three runs in the first two innings and held on for a key Peninsula Athletic League Bay Division win, 4-2, over host Hillsdale Friday afternoon. With the victory, the Bears (16-9, 6-6 PAL-Bay) remained a game ahead of the Knights (13-12, 5-7) in the race for the fourth and final automatic Central Coast Section playoff bid from the PAL-Bay.     The fifth-seeded Mountain View Spartans maintained dominance throughout the first round of the CCS Division I playoffs to secure a 4-1 victory against the No. 12 Menlo-Atherton Bears (8-8-4, PAL-Bay).     San Mateo boys knock off M-A, 2-0

    The San Mateo boys soccer team moved into second place in the Peninsula Athletic League Bay Division with a 2-0 victory over visiting Menlo-Atherton Wednesday afternoon. With the victory, the Bearcats (7-2-2, 3-1-2, 11 points PAL-Bay), the defending CCS Division II co-champions, surged past the Bears (5-3-2, 3-2-1, 10) into second place, two points behind Carlmont (8-2-2, 4-1-1, 13), a 1-0 winner over Woodside on Wednesday. ...Read more

    Homestead, M-A boys play to 0-0 draw

    In the last minute of the Homestead Cup group stage match between host Homestead and visiting Menlo-Atherton Saturday morning, Homestead's Chuy Martinez Diaz took a corner kick, sending the ball into the densely packed penalty box. Despite the shoving, jumping, and kicking, the ball found its way to the far post untouched. Riley Klein, a senior midfielder, leaped up to get a foot on it, but it was too late.     Terra Nova moved a big step closer to a PAL-Bay Division title with a surprisingly easy 38-14 win at Menlo-Atherton Friday night. The victory leaves the Tigers (5-4, 3-1 PAL-Bay) needing only a win next week at last-place Half Moon Bay in the annual Skull Game Friday night.
