Prep2Prep Tip-Off Classic Top 15 Player Rankings

November 30, 2015

These player rankings are based only on this one game performance and not recruiting status, previous rankings from the Prep2Prep All Star Classic many of these players were at in August, or previous player rankings by other scouting services, or any honors and awards.

We ranked the top 15 players but got two extra in tied for the final spot as we felt the last three were so close it seemed fair to get them all a piece of the action.

Player/Class/Height/Position/School

1. Damari Milstead, 2017, 6-2, PG, Moreau Catholic

There is little doubt the Mariners would never have pulled off the 60-59 upset if not for the solid play at both ends of the court by this junior floor general whose stock certainly rose with the over 35 college coaches that watched him work on Saturday. Like everyone else in the building, Sierra Canyon thought he would get the ball on the final play and it left it open for his teammate Terrell Brown who is high on this list as well. He was chosen the outstanding player of the game

2. Jordan Brown, 2018, 6-10, C, Woodcreek

His team lost 77-68 in overtime to host Newark Memorial, but the huge crowd pulled along that team just like it did Moreau. However, the highly regarded Brown did everything he could despite being double-, triple- and sometimes even quadruple-teamed the entire game. We realize he didn’t score after his team led 64-58 with 46 seconds left in overtime but he still finished with 33 points, 18 rebounds and six blocks in almost effortless fashion.

3. Jaelen Ragsdale, 2016, 6-0, PG, Weston Ranch

He’s already signed with Cal State Stanislaus so his outstanding 38-point, six-rebound, four-assist and three-steal performance that included 5 of 9 on 3-pointers can’t raise his recruiting stock. But he got the better of Tulane-bound Colin Slater in the Cougars 80-75 overtime win over Immanuel. Ragsdale was named the game’s outstanding player.

4. Terrell Brown, 2016, 6-3, PG, Moreau Catholic

The San Jose State-committed Brown validated the assessment of Mariners Coach Frank Knight, who said he felt Brown and Damari Milstead are “two of the best guards in the state.” Besides going by three defenders to make the winning shot for point number 14 in the game, his defense against the Sierra Canyon backcourt was a key to the victory.

5. Kenny Wooten, 2016, 6-9, PF, Manteca

This Nevada-commit had a lot of hop in his game and a motor in the 73-45 victory over St. Mary’s that would not quit. He did have several dunks, but he hit some jumpers as well and was 11 of 13 from the field and 4 of 5 from the free-throw line in his 26-point, 12-rebound, and four-block performance. Wooten was chosen as the game’s most outstanding player.

6. Cody Riley, 2017, 6-8, PF, Sierra Canyon

The reality is if Riley was higher up on this list his team would probably have avoided the upset, but even though high major D1 recruit did not have his best effort, it really was not his fault the Trailblazers went down to defeat. He finished with 16 points, eight rebounds, three blocks and two assists.

7. Oscar Frayer, 2016, 6-6, SF, Moreau

The recent Cal de-commit didn’t have a great shooting night from the field but it didn’t stop him from playing great defense and attacking the basket, particularly in the fourth quarter when he made seven free throws. He also had a key three-point play to end the third quarter that cut the deficit to one point. Frayer finished with 14 points and 12 rebounds.

8. Jordan Ford, 2016, 6-0, PG, Folsom

Folsom fell behind 20-10 in the first quarter of its 53-51 upset of Modesto Christian but it was Ford that took charge to lead a 15-4 run that got them back into a game and kept them in what was a close contest until the very end. The St. Mary’s-bound Ford was named the game’s most outstanding player and finished with 23 points, nine rebounds, four assists and five steals.

9. Matt Manning, 2016, 6-6, SF, Sheldon

The scouting guide passed out to the media by event promoter Gerry Freitas said Manning was a mid-D1 level prospect but that really doesn’t matter because Manning, who was on the Oakland Athletics Area Code roster has committed to Loyola Marymount as a pitcher. His basketball skills are also excellent and his dad Rich Manning, an assistant to Sheldon Coach Joey Rollings and a former NBA player, must have been pleased as punch when the media and scouts named Matt the game’s most outstanding player in the Huskies 91-70 win over Army & Navy Academy. Manning finished with 20 points, five rebounds, four assists and three steals.

10. Drew Cobb, 2017, 6-3, SG, Sheldon

The top basketball recruit on the Huskies was the leading scorer in the win over Army & Navy Academy after finishing with 23 points to go with eight rebounds and two assists.

11. Decaurey Brown, 2017, 5-9, PG, Newark Memorial

The most outstanding player of the Cougars 77-66 overtime win against Woodcreek had his way with the backcourt of the Timberwolves in the late going and had 16 of his team-high 23 points in the fourth quarter and OT of the game. Brown also was 10 of 10 from the free-throw line.

12. Robinson Idehen, 2016, 6-10, PF, Modesto Christian

Idehen could not buy a call and fouled out after playing less than 14 minutes and finishing with eight points, 13 rebounds and six blocked shots. Had he not fouled out and played better the Crusaders likely would have beaten Weston Ranch.

13. Timmy Falls, 2017, 6-2, SG, Dublin

The Gaels junior had no fear of the defending CIF Open Division Bishop O’Dowd Dragons and was named the game’s most outstanding player in the surprising 62-48 Dublin victory. He was 5 of 10 from outside the arc and finished with 21 points, six rebounds and three assists and improved his stock with the college coaches and scouts.

14. Colin Slater, 2016, 6-0, PG, Immanuel

The Tulane-bound Slater had an off game mostly due to foul trouble and likely had he played better the Eagles would have won against a team they beat twice last season with much the same personnel. He did make two free throws to get his team to overtime and finished with a team-high 28 points and was 9 of 9 from the foul line.

15T. Fred Lavender, 2016, 6-2, SG, Weston Ranch

The Cal State Stanislaus-commit had a very solid game and complemented his future college teammate Ragsdale after finishing with 22 points and six rebounds in the upset win over Immanuel.

15T. Remy Martin, 2017, 5-11, PG, Sierra Canyon

The highly-regarded junior never really got untracked against the Moreau pressure defense but he still had his team in the game despite not having a stellar performance. He finished with 10 points, five rebounds, five assists and three steals.

15T. Kevin Kahriman, 2016, 6-10, C, Newark Memorial

They were calling him Big Country in the stands and the big fella came up huge in the Cougars win over Woodcreek. His stamina is a little suspect but Coach Craig Ashmore knew how to use him and had he not bothered Jordan Brown with his size and height Brown might have been able to get his team over the hump. Kahriman finished with a double-double 18 points and 10 rebounds with two blocks.
