Because of a postponement on guidance from the California Department of Public Health - which is not expected until at least January 1 - the California Interscholastic Federation has cancelled all regional and state championship events from the Season 1 sports calendar.
Lacking guidance from the CDPH, the CIF has also indicated that no high school sports activity will take place until at least January barring a reverse of course. This will likely result in a shortening of the Season 1 schedule, which in turn has led to the decision to forgo regional and state championships to preserve longer seasons for the vast majority of CIF member schools.
In addition, the boys volleyball season, which had initially been included in Season 1, has been moved to Season 2 in an attempt to prevent participants in that sport from losing a second consecutive season after the cancellation of the 2020 spring season.
