Former Burlingame star Philip Caulfield to LMU

July 2, 2015

Burlingame High grad Philip Caulfield has committed to Loyola Marymount.

Caulfield hit .374 last season for Skyline College where he knocked in 23 runs and stole 18 bases.

Tweeted Caulfield: "Committed to play D1 baseball at Loyola Marymount University! #golions"

Chimed in former Serra basketball star Danny Mahoney who now plays at San Jose State via Twitter: "Shoutout to my guy @pcaulfield19 for commuting to LMU for baseball and living that D1 life now."

Said Caulfield: "It's a dream come true to play Division I. It's something I've wanted to do my whole life and now that it's happening I'm really humbled."

Dream come true division I whole life long time. Happen opp humbling.

Caulfield was a target for recruiters since stepping on the cold and foggy San Bruno campus.

“I’ve had a coach direct message me on Twitter asking me questions,” Caulfield told the Skyline student news site. “It just felt weird. But I trying to enjoy this time. I just want to try to stay as persistent as possible, and make the best choice for myself.”

While also speaking to the student journalist, Caulfield said: “You have to realize what school is the best fit for you socially, academically, and athletically. Coach Dino really helped me realize that. When I went on my official visit to a school in Massachusetts I had decided if this was the best choice for me. Ultimately I decided it wasn’t.”

Caulfield will join former Serra star Sean Watkins on the Loyola team. This past season Watkins was named a Perfect Game freshman All-America pick for the Lions.
