Bearcats hire pair of coaches

July 2, 2015

San Mateo hired two coaches recently.

For the fall, athletic director Jeff Scheller has picked Andoni Javellana to head the girls' volleyball program. She was the freshman coach at San Mateo last season and the junior varsity coach at Hillsdale from 2011 through 2013.

Javellana also directs the Kamikaze Volleyball Club of Foster City.

John Saucedo will take over the San Mateo girls’ soccer program. He was the San Mateo JV coach last season. He also was the assistant women’s soccer coach at Canada College for three years and assistant men’s coach at Skyline College for one year.

At the prep level, Saucedo was the coach at Immaculate Conception Academy. He has also coached JV programs at San Mateo, Palo Alto, Burlingame and Mills.

Saucedo has also coached some community programs, guiding the Burlingame Stingers club soccer team for six years and the San Mateo County Firefighters soccer squad for 10 years.
