Aldrete, Reyes, Malone make 18U national trials' team

Monterey High’s Carter Aldrete, Woodcreek-Roseville’s Tyler Malone and St. Mary’s-Stockton’s Ripken Reyes have all made the 40-man USA Baseball 18U national trials’ team. All are infielders. Aldrete has played three sports at Monterey, including serving as quarterback for the football team.

The announcement came at the end of the Tournament of Stars.

The first round of trials will be in Cary, North Carolina from Monday through Friday. After that, the roster will be trimmed to 28.

The chosen 28 will then journey to Los Angeles for another round of trials where the team will be trimmed to its final 20 men.

A total of 107 athletes competed in the Tournament of Stars. The 40 players represent 17 states and 13 of the players are from California.

The 20 who make the 18U national team will compete in the WBSC AAA World Cup in Nishinomiya, Japan.
