CCS girls' basketball week in review

Here’s a roundup of the Central Coast Section for the week ending Saturday:

WCAL: It’s a three-way tangle thus far. Archbishop Mitty (13-3, 4-1) defeated Presentation, 53-42. Heleyna Hill went 8-for-12 from the field and scored 23 points, Daniela Guglielmo added 14 points, and Taylor Todd grabbed 12 rebounds. In a 68-53 win at Valley Christian, Jahnay Anderson made six three’s on eight attempts and finished with 27 points. Madeline Holland contributed nine points and 11 rebounds.

Sacred Heart Cathedral (9-8, 4-1) defeated visiting Notre Dame, 61-36. St. Ignatius (14-3, 4-1) also had just one game this week and it was against Notre Dame. The Wildcats enjoyed a 48-24 victory. In other league action, Presentation beat St. Francis, 48-43. Maeve Kavanagh scored a game-high 20; she had 14 in the Mitty game.

SCVAL: Palo Alto (15-2, 5-0) is atop the De Anza. The Vikings pulled away in the fourth quarter to defeat Mountain View, 53-40. Coco Lovely had 15 points, Lauren Koyama 14 points, and Alexis Harris grabbed 10 rebounds. Mountain View (14-4, 5-1) suffered its first league loss in the game. Earlier in the week, the Spartans downed Los Altos, 62-34. Jayme Hughes had 17 in that game and 14 against Palo Alto. In other league action, Meg Enthoven scored 24 points for Los Altos but the Eagles lost to Los Gatos, 46-43.

In the El Camino, Cupertino (14-3, 5-0) remained perfect after defeating Lynbrook 46-28 and second place Homestead 41-35. Rilizza Isla scored a total of 24 points for the week. Ugochi Anudokem had 18 for Homestead (8-8, 4-2). The Mustangs then defeated Santa Clara 48-40.

WBAL: In the Foothill Division, Pinewood (12-2, 5-0), defeated Menlo School, 71-50. Chloe Eackles and Stella Kailahi had 15 points apiece, Kailahi added 13 rebounds, and Akayla Hackson tallied 10 points and seven boards. Menlo (12-4, 3-1) received 16 points from McKenzie Duffner, who had 14 in the Knights’ 46-43 win at Sacred Heart Prep.

In the Skyline, Mercy (11-5, 4-1) edged The King’s Academy 41-40. Victoria Langi scored 19 points for the Crusaders. The King’s Academy (13-3, 3-1) won other contests, 57-8 versus Woodside Priory and 61-17 versus Crystal Springs Uplands. In all three games, a different player was the leading scorer. Elsewhere, Jordan Thompson of Harker scored 27 points in a 52-25 win over Woodside Priory.

PAL: In the North, Westmoor (10-5, 5-0) had two convincing defeats. The Rams defeated Terra Nova, 60-33, and Jefferson, 57-18. Kasey Liang had 16 in the latter. The previously unbeaten Tigers (8-10, 4-2) then fell to Half Moon Bay, 60-40. Addison Walling and Morgan Tomberlin combined for 29 points for the Cougars (13-5, 4-2).

Hillsdale and Menlo-Atherton share the lead in the South. Hillsdale (12-6, 5-1) lost to Mills, 33-29, then defeated Aragon 55-42. Raichel Tjan had 18 points in the win. Menlo-Atherton (13-5, 5-1) also defeated Aragon, by the count of 60-55. The Bears followed with a win at Woodside, 58-28. Greer Hoyem had 16 points in the former and 21 in the latter.

BVAL: Piedmont Hills (14-3, 6-0) defeated Branham in a head-to-head to seize control of the Mount Hamilton Division. As reported by this author, Venus Tran scored 10 points in the final 3:11 to help the Pirates surge past the Bruins, 53-45. Earlier, they edged Gunderson, 55-50. Branham (14-2, 5-1) started the week with a 51-48 victory at Willow Glen. Regina Sankey scored 28 points and followed with 22 points against Piedmont Hills. Pioneer (9-5, 4-2) picked up a 55-43 win versus Evergreen Valley and a 42-35 win at Westmont. AJ Leasau scored 17 points in the first and 22 in the second.

In the Santa Teresa Division, Leigh (12-4, 5-1) has a one-game lead over Hill, Leland, and Sobrato. The Longhorns downed Independence, 53-31, and Sobrato 51-43. In Hill’s 64-56 win versus Leland, Miriam Jimenez scored 24 points. Leland’s Melissa Fletcher had 14, as well as 23 against Live Oak in the Chargers’ 58-57 victory at Live Oak.

Oak Grove (9-8, 7-0) leads the West Valley Division. The Eagles beat Mt. Pleasant 60-21 and Overfelt 42-28. Kimi Sato had 21 points in the latter.

SCCAL: Scotts Valley (15-2, 6-0) had two more coasting wins. The Falcons beat St. Francis 70-29 and Harbor 79-6. Mandy Silver totaled 19 points, 12 rebounds, seven assists, and nine steals in the first, and 19 points, eight rebounds, six assists, and six steals in the second. Charlie Boyle had a combined 39 points and 13 boards.

MBAL: North Salinas (14-2, 5-0) defeated Monte Vista Christian, 59-44, and Seaside, 79-41, in the Gabilan Division. The coaches selected Monae Hobson and Nicole Hermosillo-Wright as the corresponding Player of the Game. San Benito (13-4, 4-1) is right behind after routing Gilroy 54-25 and edging Monte Vista Christian 51-50.

In the Pacific, Notre Dame-Salinas (11-6, 4-1) is atop the division. The Spirits beat Pajaro Valley, 50-40. Sarah Nino tallied 18 points, seven rebounds, and five blocks.
