Sheldon wins big at Tarkanian Classic

December 19, 2014

Devin Greene scored 23 points to lead Sheldon to a 64-41 win over Righetti in the Tarkanian Classic Friday evening on the campus of Bishop Gorman High School in Las Vegas. After opening the tournament with a loss to Bingham (Utah), the Huskies (2-2) have now won two in a row heading into Saturday's action.

Greene buried four 3-pointers, including three in the first quarter as Sheldon built a 23-12 lead after one. The lead ballooned up to 16 by halftime and 23 at the end of the third quarter as the Huskies were never seriously threatened.

"We played really well tonight," Sheldon coach Joey Rollings said. "Devin Greene got us going - he hit eight shots in a row at one time, four 3s - that fired us up and we did a good job after that."

Matthew Manning added 14 points and Isaiah Brooks chipped in with 10. Stanford-bound Cameron Walker led Righetti with 22.

Each team plays one more game in the consolation bracket of the 16-team Premier Division tournament. Sheldon takes on the winner of the Mayfair-Los Angeles Poly matchup Saturday at 3:40 pm while Righetti meets the loser of that contest at 1 pm.

In other action involving teams from Northern California, Prolific Prep knocked off Victory Prep (Texas), 71-59 in the Prep School Division. It was the second win in two days for the Crew, who take on Oklahoma City Storm Saturday at 11:40.
