Bay Area trio heads into Blue-Grey action at Raymond James Stadium

January 6, 2018

Three Bay Area athletes headline the North team in Saturday's Blue-Grey All-American Bowl at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida.

There are just three athletes from California on the team, and all three happen to hail from the Bay Area. Those three are Woodside Priory running back Keyshawn Ashford, El Cerrito defensive back Delano Ware, and Hercules defensive back Emany Johnson.

Ware and Johnson have both already signed their national letters of intent, with Ware heading to the University of Illinois next year, and Johnson heading to the University of Nevada-Reno. But Ashford might have had the most prolific season of them all, statistically speaking.

Ashford led the Panthers to an 8-1 record this season, rushing for 1,484 yards and 31 touchdowns, averaging 15.1 yards per carry. But since he played eight-man football, many in the Bay Area were not aware of his prowess. That did not stop schools such as Weber State and San Diego State from showing interest, in a recruiting process that is still ongoing for the senior.

Ware was named the Defensive Player of the Year in the TCAL-Rock Division, while Johnson led his Titans to the NCS Division IV championship game.

This Saturday's game will be nationally broadcast on ESPN3, beginning at 4:30 pm PST.
