Serra High graduate Micheal Tinsley of Kansas, a seventh-round draft pick, has signed with the Cleveland Indians for $175,000, tweeted @jimcallisMLB.
Said Callis of the left-handed hitting catcher/outfielder: “track record of hitting, receiving, plus arm.”
Tinsley led Serra to the Central Coast Section championship game as a senior and was named to the All-WCAL first team after hitting .386 with 24 runs batted in. Tinsley hit three home runs, 12 doubles and one triple. He also walked 22 times and had a .486 on-base percentage and managed a .587 slugging percentage. Fast on the bases for a catcher, he had 25 career stolen bases.
Tinsley is not the most famous catcher out of Serra to be drafted -- New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady (an MLB pick as a senior) ranks ahead of him in that regard.
