Jay MacIntyre, who started at quarterback for two seasons at Valley Christian, has transferred to Monarch High in Boulder, Colo., said Valley Christian coach Mike Machado. He will continue his junior year in Boulder.
"I talked a few days ago with Jay and to his dad on New Year's Eve and after speaking to the family they decided the best move for Jay is to leave before the second semester and get to his new school and get started with his new (football) program," Machado said.
MacIntyre's father, Mike, was recently hired as the new Colorado coach following a successful stint at San Jose State.
Asked if Valley Christian has a player who can step in for Jay MacIntyre, Machado indicated he does in fact have one -- under his own roof. That would be Mike Machado Jr., who quarterbacked the 2012 Warrior junior varsity team and helped lead the Valley Christian frosh to an unbeaten season two years ago.
MacIntyre completed 42-of-82 passes for 979 yards and 11 touchdowns and rushed for 436 yards and 5 touchdowns to help Valley Christian to the CCS Division III title in 2012. He was also a standout guard for the Valley Christian basketball team.
