Westmont boys basketball coach resigns

April 30, 2016

Dave Chappell has resigned as the Westmont High boys’ basketball coach due to “increased responsibilities”

at work, said Warrior athletic director Jason Van Benthuysen.

Westmont went 16-9, 11-3 last season and shared the BVAL-Santa Teresa title with Evergreen Valley. The

Warriors fell to Lynbrook in the first round of the CCS Division II playoffs.

Asked what Westmont is looking for in a new coach, Van Benthuysen said: “Westmont views athletics not as

extracurricular activities but rather as co-curricular activities where players are expected to be student-athletes

and coaches are accountable as teacher-coaches.  We are looking for a coach that is an educator and their

program is an extension of the school's educational program.”
